The two most common issues I see that ruin the appearance of a laminate floor are water damage and raised boards because no expansion gap was left by the installer. A vacuum cleaner can be used for dust collection from a laminate floor. A tightly wrung damp cloth may be used to wipe up animal paw prints or spilled drinks, dry with a second cloth.
Under no circumstance use a mop and bucket of water to clean a laminate floor. The floor will quickly absorb the water, expand before curling upwards at the joints. By the time a floor shows water damage the entire floor area is ruined. Water will be drawn by capillary action between the boards and the underlay.
